This happened in Macedonia. One peasant had a missive letter written in Turkish. He wanted to
find somebody who could read that letter. But he never could!
Once a man in a snow-white turban - a hadji - crossed his pass.
"Oh, for God's sake!" said the peasant, "Tell me what is written in this missive letter!"
"I can't, my son, I really can't! I am unable to read!"
"How so? You are wearing a turban, but you can't read!"
"My son, if you think that it is the turban that really imports, take it, put it on your head and read your letter yourself!"
